Hmm... right now, the only thing I'm thinking of you could try doing is perhaps take a quick peek in the registry area for the QuickCam software - there should be a registry value for resolution the program starts in. A bit rudimentary at best (if it would even work), you may be able to specify a specific resolution for it to start the program in.
