Well, it's been a while since I updated this thing, so here we go...

The Skinning Contest has been extended to Labor Day to give the artists more time.
The wiki is getting popular: we've been defaced by pornographers 20 times.
PlanetAMD64 broke 41,000,000 hits last month.
We've launched a Sponsor program to generate revenues to bring our second server online.
Apple is moving to Intel (a sign of the Geek Apocalypse)
Microsoft is speaking at Linuxworld (another sign of the Geek Apocalypse)

More things as I think of them.

On May 1, 2005 we launched our skinning contest. Skin artists (the computer kind) head over and enter to win fabulous prizes. The contest runs until July 4, 2005 (64 days) so crank up Photoshop and get cracking! Rules and prizes are posted pn PlanetAMD64.

Well WinHEC has come and gone and it was quite a roller coaster ride. I got to meet a whole bunch of my peers (I'm still reeling that they consider me their peer) and we hed some pretty interesting chats with the folks at Microsoft. This year's WinHEC differed from previous years. Infulential websites were recognized as assets finally and the upper management at MS started to use this channel. We discussed at a "Blogger Lunch" several topics ranging from 64-bit computing to Longhorn features demonstrated at the keynote. It was refreshing to have our opinions listened to.

Big thanks to Ryan for getting us this hookup. Dude, it was a pleasure to finally meet you.

Lots of behind the scense stuff happening over at PlanetAMD64. Get ready for a whole new look plus an exciting contest with fabulous prizes.

For those of you trying to get ahold of me over the weekend, I spent the entire time rebuilding my Active Directory and Exchange Server. Yes I know you shouldn't have both on the same box, but when you lack powerful enough boxen, you have to make due with what you have. Today's fun includes republishing Exchange OWA through a linux firewall (any comments or advice on this would be greatly appreciated) and redoing my alternate web/ftp server (real easy compared to the first task.).

Well, I got my confirmation for the x64 Launch festivites and it looks like we have enough people from PlanetAMD64 going to have our own table. I will talk to the maitre'd about arranging for one near Bill Gates.

The PlanetAMD64 Wiki is shaping up nicely. Content is starting to pour in and it's running smoothly. If anyone has some wiki management experience, how do you prevent idiots from posting viagra/cialis ads on the site? I've blocked this clown's IP twice and now he's shown up with a third one. I don't want to block an entire Class C or Class B address block but I may have to.

I, and many of my ilk, will be descending upon Seattle, WA in less than two weeks. 64-bit Windows will be formally introduced and (rumor has it) the Longhorn Beta will be formally announced as well. Stay tuned to PlanetAMD64 and Extended64 for ongoing coverage.

Well I've finally started a blog. Not that PlanetAMD64 hasn't been a blog of mine. But in the spirit of cooperation, I am patronizing this site and promoting it as we are stronger together than apart.

I will be posting here thoughts and opinions, plus info on happenings elswhere in the 64-bit universe. Plus anything that just plain tickles my fancy. I hope you enjoy the ride.
