IE7 vs Firefox 2.0

Lately IE7 has received a lot of flack lately(memory usage, exploit) after it went RTM, These are however valid reasons to rip on IE7. However I'd truly love to see Firefox do something that IE6 and IE7 have already accomplished along time ago. You might know what I'm talking about, if not your about to find out.

Question:  Where on the Firefox website can you download a x64 build of any version of Firefox?

Answer:  You Can't

You are forced to go to a 3rd party site(http://www.mozilla-x86-64.com), and download a build older then whats on Firefox's website just to run Firefox natively. I think this is pretty pathetic. How much resources would it take firefox to debug and test a 64bit build... I don't think it would take that long.

Think to yourself now, how could have Firefox users missed the 64bit platform? Once Windows Vista is released 64bit platform will really go mainstream!

Once plugins such as Flash for x64 are released, Mozilla will bother building x64 versions themselves. As for right now, no one ever uses x64 versions of browsers, IE or Firefox, because Flash for sure, and maybe Java (don't know off the top of my head) plugins don't work in x64 browsers. And those are the big ones, think of all the other smaller plugins that aren't made for x64.

Additionally, there is very little need for an x64 version of a web browser. A web browser's system requirements are so low that you'd see no difference at all in 99.9% of all browser use.

Would it hurt to have an x64 version? Certainly not, and if there were x64 versions of all the commonly used plugins, I'd use it. However, until such plugins are available, there's no need to make an x64 browser mainstream.

true, but flash and other plugin makers should embrace x64

I agree completely, but that's another argument completely ;). Once they do, I don't see any reason why x64 builds of IE and Fx wouldn't become much more popular. I'd certainly start using them.
